His latest art style, which he describes as African Pop Art, is a vibrant blend of colors inspired by elements from Benin art, Mali’s architectural aesthetics, and Ndebele designs, drawing influence from iconic artists like Esther Mahlangu and musicians such as Mariam and Amadou.

Though African masks inspire his creations, Senzo has developed his own distinct style, which he calls Amasweedi. Senzart911 honed his artistic skills through formal studies at institutions like the Funda Centre, ECAV, Artist Proof Studio, and Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in France. Over the years, he has collaborated with international brands, including Hennessy and Nandos UK, and his work has been displayed in galleries worldwide.

A celebrated street artist with a distinctive African flair, Senzo proudly represents his roots in Soweto through his art, which resonates with audiences around the globe.

My formal training in visual arts started in high school, and I’ve since developed my craft independently. I primarily work with spray cans and acrylic paint, appreciating the vibrant colors and intricate details these mediums allow. South African artist Johnny Allison inspires me with his unique mural style, and I aspire to refine my skills to reach his level. My work includes painting murals for brands like Chicken Licken and Capitec, freelancing with Keys Communications to create advertising art across South Africa. Participating in projects like commemorating Soweto’s history allows me to showcase South Africa's greatness. Painting a mural begins with a mock-up to finalize the color scheme before executing the piece. Hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup was a proud moment, uniting nations through sports, arts, and culture, and reaffirming the spirit of unity that guides my work.

Learning from old masters such as Gerard Sekoto, Dumile Feni, George Pemba and William Kent Kentridge has helped

me in many ways such as portraying my Africanness and positive messaging through my art.

Her passion for art, however, was sparked even earlier during her primary school years. Ntokozo’s formal training at the Progressive Music, Dance & Art School in Selcourt, Eastrand, has deeply influenced her style, encouraging her to explore bold, expressive color schemes. Known for her preference for acrylic paints and spray cans, she finds joy and self-expression through these mediums, embracing the creative freedom they provide.

A significant source of inspiration for Ntokozo’s work is South Africa’s rich history, particularly the celebration of 30 years of democracy. When creating murals, she begins with stencils, using a projector and laptop for precision, and then selects the materials that best capture her vision. Themes of unity and empowerment are central to her art, exemplied by her mural slogan, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” She strives to evoke a sense of resilience and achievement, aiming to create work that resonates positively with her audience.

Being part of large-scale projects is particularly meaningful to Ntokozo, as it represents both recognition and an opportunity for growth as a female artist in South Africa. She draws inspiration from renowned South African artist Karabo Poppy Moletsane and aspires to reach similar heights in her career. Through her art, Ntokozo hopes to inspire a sense of success, freedom, and celebration of South Africa’s democratic legacy.

Ntokozo Tshabalala’s journey as an artist began at age 15 when her grandmother’s employer, Susan Harris,

introduced her to an art school in Selcourt.

My artistic style blends bold colors with symbolic imagery, reflecting a commitment to community engagement and social commentary. Working across mediums such as acrylics, spray paint, screen printing, and mixed media, I have participated in local art festivals and collaborated with artists globally. My work has been showcased in exhibitions across Australia, America, South Africa, and China, and I have won multiple international competitions.

The Soweto Hero Project deeply resonates with me as it honors the heroes who fought for freedom and equality. My mural design process involves researching local stories, brainstorming meaningful symbolism, and sketching compositions that emphasize themes of resilience, hope, and unity. Personal stories from Soweto’s history inspire my work, capturing the strength and spirit of the community through vibrant colors and powerful imagery.

My artistic journey began in the vibrant streets of Soweto, where local street art first inspired my passion for creativity. Over the years,

I trained informally under more than 20 artists, mastering painting and mural design while drawing inspiration from

African modernism and surrealism.
